I am Anja Reithmann — illustrator, artist and biologist. Trained in biology and fine arts, I live and work between Munich and Barcelona and create in German, English and Spanish. My work is rooted in the stories of the natural world, informed by close observation and a love for living systems. Visual storytelling, memorable characters and quiet, contemplative moments emerge from careful study and a scientific curiosity about animals, plants and their interactions. I design illustrations with clear lines and emotional depth, concentrating on children’s books, character-driven projects and independent fine-art work. My background in biology guides how I observe, interpret and translate natural processes, animals and habitats into images — often with a subtle, slightly surreal touch that invites wonder. Alongside commissioned projects, I develop my own book ideas and visual concepts, and regularly share my creative process through sketches, studies and finished illustrations.
